About Mark
With over 25 years of mental health experience in a variety of settings, I bring countless clinical hours and a wealth of life experience to every client session. I’ve gained more insight from hands-on practice than from any textbook or graduate course, and I strive to leverage this learning for the benefit of my clients. While my approach is eclectic, I primarily identify as a client-centered therapist who places great value on rapport and trust. Psychodynamic theory has significantly influenced my thinking, and I also weave aspects of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy into my work—though I aim for my clients to never feel they are being subjected to a rigid “approach.” Sessions are conversational, and, ideally, with a laugh or two. While everyone’s needs are unique, there is often a two-pronged approach: focusing on coping strategies for more immediate relief while concurrently addressing deeper issues for lasting change. To break patterns and get out of our own way, we need to better understand our emotions and behaviors by bringing the unconscious conscious. We need to hear ourselves in a safe environment and we need some of the stories we tell ourselves reflected back to us. I believe that understanding and feeling understood are powerful elixirs. The work is often not easy and sometimes even a little painful, but we can get through it together.
